a perfect post…take two

This arbitrary transition season, I wanted to enter the New Year doing something that I love to do. So I wrote. Considering how much joy it can bring me I find myself seriously neglecting putting fingerprints to keyboard. I started my 2022 with writing. Hit almost 2000 words of various things before I was fighting to keep my eyes open. I thought back to the first, and only (hides beyond anonymity of the internet) thing I published for Cukinus and how utterly confused my voice was. Moving forward I have decided everything I write, and post will simply…be…perfect.

Maybe your click-bait radar is strong and you’re skeptical, sensing an “ultimate-secret-to-writing-the-perfect-post” gimmick coming; or your click-bait radar is strong and you, along with the rest of the internet really need to know this secret. Either way, let me share it with you: perfection only ever exists within tightly defined parameters. I have spent a lot of time wanting to be perfect and through all that time this was the only truth about perfection I could find. You can bowl a perfect game. There are perfect ratios in math (the parameters of which are beyond my grasp). And a baby, that looks like no other baby in the world, can be perfect to those who love it purely based on the parameters that the baby is theirs to love!

This year, I am deciding to write more. I am activating my cheat code and bypassing every ounce of the pressure to be perfect at it by defining perfection for myself. I am deciding that just writing more often will make me the perfect writer. I am deciding that anything on the page is the most perfect anything that page has ever seen. I am deciding to bypass the critic, both internal and external by deciding whatever I do is enough. In that assertion lies the freedom to actually play with, explore, and enjoy writing- insert whatever your “writing” is for this year.

Raise a glass- mine has Welches Sparkling Rosé for sobriety's sake (but that is another tale for another time)- to the new year and to us. Throughout it all we still stand today. Keep going your perseverance is truly wonderful to see.

With an abundance of love,

Cukinus & Ari
